Last October, Mr. Dill and I got married in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. This year, we’re going home to the Philippines, to my hometown of Cebu, for our formal wedding. One of the first things I read on The Knot checklist (their website has great tools, by the way, for guest lists, checklists, budgets, etc.) is deciding what your dress will look like.
I always knew that I wanted my Auntie Myrna to make my dress. She made my dress for my 18th birthday and all my prom dresses, so she knows what I like and what fits my body well. All I had to do was figure out what it was I wanted. Needless to say, I looked through tons of magazines and websites for months until I found it. It is true that when you see the dress you want, you just know. I saw Vera Wang’s fall collection and saw the Esther dress, which is what Ivanka Trump wore on her wedding day. It’s inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, but looks a lot lighter and less, well, princess-y. The illusion neckline is great because it gives the impression of a strapless dress without actually being strapless (great for curvier girls like me).

I’m definitely not looking for a literal translation of the Vera Wang or Grace Kelly dress, so I’m excited to see Auntie Myrna’s interpretation of it. Maybe something more modern like the gowns below. What I definitely have to have for all the dresses are pockets! Pockets on a dress are the best thing, even if you don’t put anything in it (though a hanky would come in very handy at the ceremony). It’s somewhere to put your hands when you don’t know what else to do in a picture.

The colors of our wedding are inspired by French macarons, which we had as giveaways at our small celebration last year and all around our cake. That way each bridesmaid looks slightly different, and Auntie Myrna already has some great ideas for their dresses. But, the main colors for the flowers and decor are cream and green, and I’d love to just have a simple bouquet of flowers like Grace Kelly’s, though lilies may be hard to find in the Philippines in October. Maybe just green and white orchids with some leaves.
