Posts have been a bit spotty this week due to work travel, which is somewhat of a necessary evil in my line of work. For a three-day trip, I hate to check bags in (especially on airlines that charge for each bag). So, I try to be really tactical about what I’m packing. Here’s some quick tips:

cardigan, banana republic; peplum top, topshop; cropped trousers, banana republic; tuxedo blazer, aritzia; embellished sweater, banana republic
1. Break down what you’re doing each day and who you’ll be meeting. I’ve learned from my Mom that there’s nothing worse than being underdressed, so I try to figure out how dressy or casual my outfit needs to be.
For example, on Day 1 needed to go from initial meeting with clients in the morning to cocktails and somewhat casual dinner. So, a pretty top, pants and cardigan (it’s always cold in those offices!) says dressy but not stuffy. Day 2 was more of a worksession by which time we were surely going to be a little more at ease, so an easy jacket, embellished sweater and slacks felt more comfortable and wouldn’t be too restrictive when I caught my flight home later that day.
2. Pick a color palette to work with. To pack lightly, I try to keep clothing in the same or complimentary color families. In case you have to stay an extra day, it’s easy to mix and match to come up with a whole new outfit. Plus, one set of shoes that goes with everything takes the bulk out of your bag.

Hope this helps the next time you have to fly somewhere!
